Roommate Rants.

FIRST OFF, for the most part, my roommates are great. We have good conversations with each other, we get along well, but at the same time, we aren’t super close so there is no expectation that we have to hang out together. This is partially due to the fact that 1) one of them is an exchange student and has all of her exchange student friends 2) one of them is 19 and I am 23 (self-explanatory) -and- 3) I pretty much never see the other one. It’s a great dynamic. I like it, because things are not awkward, but at the same time I can close my door and be a loner if I so desire.

So really, I just have general, teensy-weensy little annoyances. Like the dishcloths. For god’s sake, when the dishcloth is dirty (as in, LOOKS DIRTY AND SMELLS) PLEASE STOP USING IT. AND WASH IT. Or, since the dishcloths are mine, wring it out and throw it to the side and I will throw it in my laundry hamper. I don’t care if I’m the only one washing the dishcloths — it is really not a big deal. Just PLEASE don’t let it lay there rotting by the sink, soaking fricking wet, because… :< It makes me a sad panda. I always ring my dishcloths out and leave them to dry, which results in 1) less stink -and- 2) less grossness later when I have to go wash them.

Is this really a hard one? Like… I’m starting to wonder, because most of my roommates (not all, mind you), seemed to not wring out the dishcloth before hanging it up to dry. It honestly somewhat boggles my mind, because in my household, if the dishcloth wasn’t rung out it was like “OK WHO WAS THE CULPRIT?” but with the 10 roommates that I’ve had so far, maybe 2 of them actually rung out the dishcloth. IS THIS AN ODDITY? Is it something that just goesn’t occur to the majority??

Second of all. The floor. Theeeeee kitchen floor. It’s gross, mostly due in part to the fact that our apartment is 1) old -and- 2) a university apartment. There are stains. The carpet in my bedroom actually has BURN MARKS in it. So, even when you clean the kitchen floor, it still looks somewhat icky. BUT STILL. FOR THE LOVE OF A CLEAN KITCHEN FLOOR, WIPE UP YOUR SPILLS! I just washed the floor on Friday, and there’s a nasty-ass spill mark by the stove. Thanks, guys. Thanks.

Not to sound like some sort of crazy neat freak, because I’m not. I’m not much of a fan of cleaning, personally, so if something looks clean, I’m not going to clean it until it looks dirty. But still. I have standards. As in, if I spill something on the floor, I wipe it up. If I spill something on the counter, I wipe it up. If I splatter on the stove top, I wipe it up. Why? Because it means that you can go longer without cleaning-cleaning it, AND….. it makes your house look deceptively clean when it is not, therefore you are not embarrassed when people unexpectedly come over. ROCKET SCIENCE, I KNOW.

Anyway, Happy Valentine’s Day, dudes and dudettes <3 I am single (obvs) but rocking a cute v-day manicure anyway, so I feel pretty spiffy.  AND THE SUN IS COMING OUT. Yay :)
