Interesting.

So, I am at home for the second half of my reading break. Just flew in today. The flight was alright and quick (I also got work done on the plane! SHOCKER), but HOLY TURBULENCE. Ugh, the landing… I thought I was going to puke. It was horrible.

Anyway, my mom’s been doing some cleaning out of things, and happened to dig up some of my old elementary school report cards, so I was reading through all of them. It was kind of creepy, actually. Creepy in the fact that on those pages, all of the insecurities that continue to plague me into adulthood were written out by the people most present during my developmental years.

“Ashley has difficulty participating in class discussion…”

“Ashley needs encouragement and validation in order to feel confident in herself…”

(edit: this is paraphrased, not exact wording LOL @ipsuls <3 “YOUR TEACHERS SOUND MEAN”)

Among other things. It really frigging creeped me out, how my 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8-year-old self is SO much like me as an adult. I mean, obviously we’re the same people, but here you think “OH YEAH, I’ve come a long way since then,” when… really… you’re still working on it all. It was also creepy how these adults who weren’t even my parents had me pegged to a T, and how it took me this many years to make these realizations that they made in a SCHOOL YEAR.

Really goes to show you that developmental theory (as in, your early years are highly influential in shaping YOUR WHOLE LIFE) really does have basis in truth, haha.

I also looked at my high school report cards and proceeded to weep about how I grade that I was once “Meh,” about in high school = one of my highest in university. If only.

Anyway.
